1. Outline of the demand and challenges with existing RPE

Demand and growth of the RPE market is growing significantly. In 2019 the RPE market was already estimated to be over USD $10bn . With the onset of the COVID-19 crisis in late 2019, the value of the global disposable face mask market alone exceeded over USD 75 bn in 2020. Part One of this series will also outline the current challenges with existing RPE – namely around the evident limitations of the existing technology.

2. Proposal for an advanced alternative to the existing mask

Part two of this series will present a patented respiratory protection system developed by Aō Air that uses smart proprietary, user-centric technology that is not dependent on the mask having a seal around the mouth and nose.

3. Proposed solution for the existing commoditised RPE business model

Part Three proceeds to propose a new solution for the RPE market that moves respiratory protection beyond physical masks towards a more human-centric business model that not only improves lives, but through intelligent design also gives us back our cities, our economies and enhances our human connections.
